Neighbors Emergency Center Texarkana Supports Local Girl Scouts Earning First Aid Badge
HOUSTON, Texas, December 7, 2016 – Happy to share the fascinating components of emergency medical care, Neighbors Emergency Center Texarkana recently sponsored a Teddy Bear ER especially for local Girl Scout Troop 2468. The troop and their leaders visited Neighbors on December 5 for the interactive lesson from Neighbors’ Dr. Jason Yost and Marketing Liaison Leanne Maynard. Neighbors Emergency Center Texarkana is located at 2001 Mall Dr., Texarkana, TX 75503.
To help the Girl Scouts earn their First Aid badge, the troop learned about the need and value of an emergency room and what types of injuries or illnesses constitute an ER visit. They also learned about the roles of doctors, nurses, radiology technicians and administrative staff at the center.
Each Girl Scout was given their own Neighbors teddy bear “patient” to register and wristband with a sticker. Girls then triaged their “patients” symptoms and Yost instructed the Scouts on basic first aid. The troop toured the designated Pediatric Room where they were able to practice their newly learned first aid skills on their teddy bear “patient”. At the lesson’s conclusion, each Girl Scout received a Neighbors Emergency Center teddy bear “patient” to take home.
This positive action is a direct link with Neighbors’ core values of having a genuine, compassionate heart; a creative spark; and a collaborative act delivered with a friendly smile.
